Profile

Assoc Prof Hairil Rizal is a Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist and the Clinical Director for the Office of Value-based Healthcare (OVBH) at SGH. He completed his anaesthesiology specialty training in Singapore, and further pursued fellowship and a MSc degree in Perioperative Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada and University College London, UK respectively. Additionally, he holds a PhD in Clinical and Translational Science, focusing on Data Science in Healthcare, which were supported by the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship in 2022 and the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Research Training Fellowship in 2020. 

As a perioperative clinician, he led a transformative initiative in SGH that culminated in a one-stop Preoperative Assessment Centre, and introduced the “PREPARE” prehabilitation program for elderly patients, earning him the National Healthcare Innovation and Productivity Award in 2020. Concurrently a Clinician Scientist funded by the NMRC and a Faculty Fellow for Singapore Biodesign, Hairil is a leading figure in healthtech innovations. As the Clinical Director of OVBH, his work in operationalizing Value Based Healthcare has been recognized with the "Distinguished Champion of Change Leader Award" by SingHealth in 2022. His focus on innovation, education, and patient care positions him as a prominent leader in his field.
