Siti Rohaida Binte Rahmat
Nurse Clinician (APN), Neurology, EGH
Nurse Clinician (APN), Nursing, NNI
Ms Siti Rohaida Binte Rahmat started her nursing career in 2009 and is currently an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) at the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). She is a first responder in hyperacute stroke activations for the stroke team and independently runs clinics to review stroke patients after their discharge from NNI@TTSH and NNI@SGH.
Aside from clinical duties, she is actively involved in leading research and innovation projects. Ms Rohaida was awarded the 2022 NNI Centre Grant for her research study, and her zest for innovation has driven her to co-lead the development of resources for healthcare professionals. She was also awarded the Wee Foundation Scholarship in 2023.
“As an APN for neuroscience services, I embrace the opportunity to provide comprehensive care across both neurology and neurosurgery services, thus gaining a holistic perspective to bridge gaps between disciplines and advocate for integrated care pathways. I strongly believe that research and innovation are pillars towards growth and development. With these, I am excited to embark on this journey to serve our patients at EGH.”
Clin Assoc Prof Steven Lim Hoon Chin
Ambulatory and Community Care Discipline Lead, EGH
Senior Consultant, Emergency Medicine, CGH
Having served in the healthcare sector for more than 25 years, Assoc Prof Steven Lim Hoon Chin holds firm to his ethos of engaging both the mind and heart when facing difficult decisions.
Assoc Prof Lim is currently a Senior Consultant of Emergency Medicine at Changi General Hospital (CGH), working with a multi-disciplinary team of frontliners to care for critically ill patients in complex situations. Alongside other appointments, he serves as the President of The Society for Emergency Medicine in Singapore and the Deputy Academic Chair of SingHealth’s Emergency Medicine Academic Clinical Programme.
A firm believer in lifelong learning, Dr Lim is also an educator and researcher contributing to evidence-based medicine.
“Partnering other researchers like data analysts and statisticians have enriched my views of clinical science and taught me ways to ask the right questions to push the frontiers of our practice.”
Faridah Hanim Binte Shamsuddin
Respiratory Therapy Lead, EGH
Senior Respiratory Therapist, SGH
Faridah Hanim Binte Shamsuddin began her SingHealth career as a Staff Nurse in 2009 before pursuing Respiratory Therapy in 2013. Today, she serves as a Senior Respiratory Therapist in Singapore General Hospital while being part of the core team that builds up EGH’s capabilities in respiratory therapy.
Respiratory Therapists like Faridah provide care for patients with lung complications and breathing-related problems. Faridah works closely with the medical and nursing teams to create treatment plans to restore patients’ natural breathing function. In her daily work, she manages the use of ventilators, administers drugs to the lungs, and monitors patients’ response to treatment.
When it comes to caring for her patients, Faridah believes that the little things matter a lot.
“Small details in daily care like talking to the patient, ensuring that they are comfortable by caring for their appearance and body position, and being gentle in our check-ins with their families are very important. We must also care for the well-being of our patients’ families, which may be easy to overlook. Simple things like asking if they are resting or eating properly can encourage them greatly.”
Clin Assoc Prof Tham Chee Kian
Medicine Discipline Lead, EGH
Deputy Chair & Senior Consultant, Division of Medical Oncology, NCCS
As the Deputy Chairman at the National Cancer Centre Singapore’s Division of Medical Oncology and a medical oncologist by training, Dr Tham Chee Kian specialises in neuro-oncology and gastrointestinal oncology. Beyond the clinical aspect of his job, he sees his role as providing hope, comfort and relief for his patients as he helps them navigate their condition.
Dr Tham is also a Medical Discipline Lead in the EGH Hospital Planning Committee, where he works with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals to design a safe, seamless and comfortable care journey for patients at the future hospital.
“I value engagement and teamwork. I believe that the personal touch, such as lending a listening ear when needed, can diffuse perceived challenging and tricky situations.”
Wendy Ang Swee Tee
Pharmacy Lead, EGH
Specialist Pharmacist, CGH
Wendy Ang has dedicated 25 years to supporting patients in their recovery journeys at Changi General Hospital (CGH). Currently, she works closely with the CGH geriatrics team to review and optimise medication orders for elderly patients, ensuring that the doses are tailored to their needs.
While Wendy has had her share of trying experiences with patients and their families, she chooses to meet their difficult emotions with empathy and encouragement. In doing so, her patients are empowered to better manage their health.
She brings the same spirit of empathy and care into her work at EGH, where she plans the workflow and processes for the future hospital’s pharmacy department.
“As healthcare professionals, we have a responsibility to help our patients and their caregivers navigate the complexities of healthcare. This advocacy for patients and caregivers is our paramount duty, where we should never be afraid to speak up, ask questions and be heard for our patients’ best interest.”
Darren Tan
Hospital and Operations Planning, EGH
An often unseen but fundamental aspect of developing a new hospital is planning its operation systems and how services will be delivered. Darren Tan oversees these vital aspects of hospital and operations planning for the upcoming EGH.
With a wealth of experience in healthcare operations, Darren has overseen operations planning for several healthcare institutions over the years, including Changi General Hospital, Sengkang General Hospital and Woodlands Health. At EGH, he and his team conceptualises systems and processes to maximise patient safety and experience, which includes designing clear operational structures for staff to deliver healthcare services safely and efficiently.
“Developing a new hospital involves a multitude of conversations and collaboration across teams, which may inadvertently lead to information gaps or miscommunication. I believe that each of us has the duty and ability to step up to fill these gaps and add value to each interaction and situation, contributing to a sum that is larger than its parts.”
Nur Syazana Binte Kamsari
Service Planning (Nursing Administration), EGH
As part of EGH’s Services Planning Nursing Administration team, Nur Syazana Kamsari supports the coordination and development of nursing care models for the new hospital. This includes manpower planning, project management and implementing nursing initiatives that upgrade the competencies of EGH’s nursing staff.
Prior to joining the team, Syazana worked on patient management operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having to manage high case-loads and pandemic surges, she is no stranger to handling challenges and demands in healthcare. Ultimately, she believes that unity and camaraderie among teammates are the key to the success of any team.
“Sincerity, compassion and proactiveness create a conducive environment for us to serve the needs of our patients and the community. This also helps fellow colleagues feel safe and inspired to give of their best to anything that we are working on.”
